Our 2018 annual report
Today we’re releasing the Smarkets annual report for our 2018 financial year, which coincides with the calendar year.
Last year was full of highlights for us as a company, especially with the product, or should we say products?!
Smarkets now has easily the best charts in betting, and no betting app is rated higher than our exchange app on iOS (4.8*).
We also introduced SBK, our revolutionary sportsbook app, to the market in beta form. We believe this product, which takes the industry-disrupting odds of the exchange and packages them in a cleaner sportsbook format, will help us continue to grow and attract different types of users in years to come.
Key exchange metrics also grew strongly in 2018, including a 46.3% jump in traded volume as over £4.5 billion was processed on our platform during a busy year of sporting and political events.
Traded volume growth
£415m of that volume was traded on the FIFA World Cup, a tournament which saw our highest-traded football matches ever, while the Grand National again set a new record for our most-traded single event (£57m).
Decisions were also made with the long-term future of the company in mind, and this led to an expected dip in revenues and profits.
However, these strategic moves mean that in 2019 the company is in the best shape it has ever been in.
